THE BAUHAUS SIGNET
Dear All,
I am thrilled to announce the "Bauhaus Signet" NFT mint that brings a seminal work of 20th-century design into the blockchain era. This authorized project with The Oskar Schlemmer Theatre Archive digitizes and tokenizes the iconic Bauhaus signet, originally created by Oskar Schlemmer in 1923, as a unique 1-of-1 NFT collection, fully onchain SVG renditions. On Ethereum, forever.
In celebration of Schlemmer's 136th birthday today, minting is now open!
Warm regards,
Dimitria

The Bauhaus school and Blockchain technology, though separated by a century, share striking parallels in their revolutionary impact. Both fundamentally restructured their respective fields.
Crafted by Oskar Schlemmer in 1923, the Bauhaus Signet is celebrating its 101st anniversary this yearβa milestone reminiscent of binary code, symbolizing the connection between the Bauhausβ revolutionary ideas and the digital realm. This historic logo of the legendary Bauhaus School now bridges the past and future through its reimagining as a generative NFT collection, ensuring its legacy lives on forever.
Innovation and Legacy
The Bauhaus school and blockchain technology share a common DNA rooted in disruption, innovation, and decentralization. The Bauhaus SignetβSchlemmerβs minimalist depiction of the human profileβremains an enduring symbol of this pioneering spirit. It was one of the earliest explorations of design merging art with technology, a precursor to todayβs digital revolution through blockchain and NFTs. This iconic design, re-envisioned as an early "PFP" (profile picture), now exists as a digital identity, decentralized, and immune to censorship, persecution, or authoritarian controlβbuilt to last forever on-chain.
Art and Community
The Bauhaus school, much like todayβs crypto communities, was a hub of collective creativity and collaboration. Just as the Bauhaus encouraged a revolutionary fusion of craft, high art, and technology across disciplines like typography, photography, and architecture, todayβs blockchain spaces foster open-source collaboration and decentralized governance. Both movements emphasize progressive approaches to education and innovation, creating bridges between the past and the future.
The Story Behind the Bauhaus Signet
as told by the grandson of Oskar Schlemmer
C. Raman Schlemmer
βTHE BAUHAUS SCHOOL REALIZED THAT THEY HAD TO BE MORE CONTEMPORARY. IN THE MASTER COUNCIL THEY DISCUSSED CREATING A NEW LOGO, AND THE ARTISTS WERE ASKED TO PRESENT PROPOSALS.
IF YOU THINK THAT AT THAT TIME, THERE WAS WASSILY KANDINSKY, PAUL KLEE, LYONEL FEININGER, BUT ALSO LΓSZLΓ MOHOLY-NAGY. IT IS AMAZING THAT THEY CHOSE THE LOGO OF OSKAR SCHLEMMER.
THE NEW LOGO WAS BOTH ABOUT THE HUMAN BEING AS WELL AS ABOUT ART, TEACHING. IT ENCOMPASSED SO MANY ASPECTS. VERY STRIKING HOW WITH A FEW SORT OF VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL ELEMENTS, YOU CREATE A FACE.β
